Google SubDomain Changes

By now you have probably already read about the changes Google has been making to the way they rank subdomains, specifically they will no longer be treated as seperate domain names but as subfolders.

Vanessa Fox over at Seach Engine Land suggests that for each query that you care most about, make sure that you have one or two pages that you most want to rank for those terms and focus on optimizing those with keywords, anchor text, and links. Know that every page on your site won’t rank for each query, so decide which are the most relevant.

And if you have completely separate topics, consider creating separate domains. In most cases, you’ll want to stick with a single domain, but there are times when multiple domains make sense.

But if you are using subdomains, check your traffic stats for the last few weeks and see if there has been any changes in your organic search engine traffic. These can be clues to your sites current standing with Googles new SubDomain Alogorythm changes.
