Making Money from Parked Domain Names
You ever hear those ads on the radio that say things like get a free xbox 360 or get a free nintendo wii, just visit blahblahblah.com? I used to hear them when I worked at the convience store and often cosidered checking them out. Not because I believed that they would deliver on the product in question but to see exactly what they were doing to make money. Were they requiring people to click links, take survey, fill out personal information or require them to get 15 friends to purchase something before they got the free gift?
But I always forgot to do it. Then my sister last week said she wanted to check out a site she had heard advertised on the radio, myfreelaptop.com
I took one look at it and was shocked. Theres no website, the domain name is merely parked with an aggregator. No content just ads. Visitors come to the site from hearing the radio ads and click on the links making the guy in Ireland who owns it money.
I wondered wether or not you could generate enough revenue from the parked domain name to pay for the advertising and walk away with a profit. So I emailed the site owner and asked, so far no response.
But it must work, the same people keep running the same types of ads.
I have been thinking about conventional advertising, i.e. offline, for some of my sites to draw traffic, but I never considered advertising my parked domains. This would require absolutely no effort as far as website design or construction. Simply a 15 or 30 second commercial spot run several times to your target audience.
So maybe this week I'll make some ads for ZOHX.com, my blogging for cash minisite, and TreatmentADHD.com, one of my parked domain names, and compare revenue or return on investment.
I chose TreatmentADHD because it isn't porn and the ads are relevant to topic. I have a few other parked domain names that seem to return irrelavant ads, which now that I think about it is probably hurting my revenue potential.
